This is the first installment of my archive of technical commentaries on the Aquarius Moon. To navigate the complete list of articles, access the Full Archive.
There are so many questions people ask about Aquarius moons, and so many we even ask about ourselves. There is something quite elusive about the Aquarius moon which leaves us feeling completely misunderstood and emotionally undernourished within the world around us, so much so that we feel like absolute aliens stranded within a frequency; or a species, or an era which is not our own – where we don’t belong.
Do Aquarian moons have feelings? – Does my Aquarius moon even care about me? – Are Aquarian moons dismissive-avoidant? – Why do they cut you out like you don’t exist? – Why are Aquarian moons know-it-alls? – and most disturbing – Why do they have a superiority/God-complex?

To be honest, some of these questions I found very offensive, until I came into a place of understanding both sides of the wall between the Aquarius Moon and the rest of the world. In my series of articles, I hope to create some sort of bridge – for all who care to cross it.
The backbone of the misunderstanding of the Aquarius moon is the fact that the Aquarius energy itself is highly misunderstood, even by astrologers. I find that modern astrologers describe the actions of Aquarian moons but they often have little to say about the reason behind their long list of curated behaviours.
There is a particular cycle of frustration that an Aquarius moon will go through when attempts to self-reflect leads them to astrological explanations which only scratches the surface, misrepresents and leaves us feeling even more alienated and misunderstood than before.
I have been here very often, but overtime I have come to realize that it is not a misunderstanding of emotional bias, it’s actually due to the general lack of understanding of the energy of Aquarius and its ruler Uranus.
TL;DR? I made a short video on this topic.
Uranus – the rebel of the solar system – is a true oddity and even at first glance this is obvious. It is the only planet which sits on its side to the point where it revolves on its axis in the most peculiar, wobbly way. Another astronomical complexity documented by NASA research, is its magnetic field, which is described as lopsided and twisted in a corkscrew shape. Weirdo.
If that wasn’t enough, add the fact that, despite it not being the planet farthest from the sun, it is the coldest planet of them all. Gangster! Uranus is literally a floating storm of gases and ice chunks being blown at wild speeds. The planet doesn’t even have a surface to land on, and if you try to penetrate it, it would utterly destroy the ship. Well, damn.
The astrological Uranus is associated with sudden flashes of intellectual insight and brilliance, which is why it is considered the higher octave of Mercury – the planet of the intellect. Its cold and impenetrable conditions could be looked at simplistically as destructive but I see this as the boundaries required for cold, analytical clarity.
Now apply all these archetypical characteristics to the sign of Aquarius. We can see that Aquarius sticks out like the sore thumb of all twelve zodiac signs. It’s giving: black sheep, underdog and outlier. Erratic, electric, bizarre, and unpredictable. Untouchable, impenetrable, and therefore misunderstood.

Uranus Magnetosphere Mystery Unlocked (Artist’s Concept)
How can we expect modern astrologers to really pin down this chaotic and non-linear energy? Does the energy of Uranus seem like something that can be studied and predicted? I think not.
Uranus – and by extension, Aquarius – is more concerned with evolution beyond what is already known. It introduces the pressure of progression, change and individuation. I think it will be far into the Aquarian Age when the astrological community is able to expand on the collective understanding of this sign and its ruler, and even then, it could again shift out of reach and predictable paths.
If we look at the characteristics of the Aquarius energy we will find that everything about leans towards a detached and objective temperament:
The element of Air is concerned with the non-physical realm of mental ideas, thoughts, concepts and frameworks. The exploration of this massive and unseen realm requires much objectivity and the rationale processing of the multiplicity of abstractions which exist there. Navigating and processing the particulars of this realm requires emotional detachment.
If you’re liking this breakdown, I do short technical commentaries on how to navigate the Saturnian Load, The Anaretic Degree and other high-frequency, high-tension placements.
Masculine energies are concerned with outward direction, movement and external functions. Its outward perspective means it requires a certain temperament to deal appropriately with external navigation. It is generally open, indiscriminate and objective, so this polarity is naturally more detached from subjective data (like emotions) than its counterpart.
The fixed modality is concerned with certainty and structure. This is because these energies are rigid or immovable and require a secure foundation which it can stand on. In terms of the human temperament, the fixed modality will require a process of analysis of some kind to make a selection of the framework or system which it will hold to. Especially for fixed air, this requires a cool, steady and detached observation. This contrasts with the alert responsiveness of the cardinal signs (for Air – Libra) and the flexible flow of the mutable signs (for Air – Gemini).

Finally, a look at the traditional ruler of Aquarius cements this cold, detached and ever stoic energy. Honestly, the energy of the astrological Saturn alone could do it! But I hope all my previous associations demonstrate the dramatic gap between the Capricorn – our Saturnian Mate – and the energy of Aquarius. So to compound it all, let’s add his icy glaze. Eeek!
Saturn is the Lord of karma and consequence, and is concerned with the themes of discipline, duty, accountability, structure, order and limitation. I like to call Saturn the Lord of Chains because of the binding weight of this energy. This energy has no respect for personal emotions and is only concerned with the integrity and function of the systems in question. Basically – no excuses – “do or die”. Saturn pressurizes the moon in Aquarius and flavours our temperament.
The severity and weight of Saturnian energy is the polar opposite of the Moon. The astrological Moon signifies our emotions, our first mind – the instinctive and subconscious self. Its sign placement demonstrates how a person feels, experiences their feelings and how they express the feelings reactively. It also signifies the way people process emotional energy and nurture themselves and others. This is a very fragile planet in the sense where it is very mild and very easily acted upon due to its receptivity.
So what does this mean for our Aquarius Moon? Let’s we overlay the energy of Aquarius on this malleable planet, what does it say about our emotional process? It is super logical, technical, detached, distant, impartial, rigid and observational – to the point of being scientific! There is no wonder why we are seen as COLD. Welp!
The stark contrast of the moon and the energy of the Aquarius moon means we are as hardcore as they come. The harsh conditions of both Saturnian and Uranus governs the emotional process with principles outside the general scope of the moon. The moon placed in the sign of Aquarius is therefore a total structural anomaly.
Now that we have mapped the astronomical blueprint, we must look at how this frequency is pathologized by the world. [Part 2: Aquarius Moon Psychology – In Defense of Emotional Detachment and Inner Structure].
